FOCUS Missionaries are back on the campus of BGSU for another exciting, God-centered year! Helping St. Tom’s evangelize on campus to the students and faculty members, FOCUS offers students an opportunity to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. One way this is done is through bible studies. These bible studies for both men and women are offered throughout the week to ensure all students are met where they are at in their own personal faith life. We have a fantastic team this year, on fire with the love of Christ, and we couldn’t be more happy to introduce them to you.
Justin Leiner hails from the great northern state of Alaska where he was born and raised. He started out his college career at University of Idaho for two years. During that time he really found out how important and beautiful his Catholic faith was to him, and decided to transfer to St. John’s University in Minnesota. He studied theology there for two years and graduated, as a theology major, in May 2017. He started out being a FOCUS missionary immediately after that and has greatly enjoyed serving as a missionary for the past year at BGSU. He recently
Emily Ritchie is a third year missionary and the Team Director of the FOCUS team this year at BGSU. She was born and raised in Oklahoma and studied nutrition at Oklahoma State University. She loves being outside and active and surrounded by people. Her favorite part of her job is watching people come alive as they discover who they are as sons and daughters of God. She feels like she often gets a front row seat to watch God work miracles in the lives of the people she serves. Her recent “God Wink” is simply watching the way that God provides her exactly what she needs when she needs it, especially in her journey to Bowling Green. Welcome to BGSU, Emily!

Fr. Jason Kahle, William Scheremet, Justin Leiner, Emily Ritchie, Danielle Heitkamp
Danielle Heitkamp recently graduated in May from Ball State University with a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education. While in college she led a Bible study and served on her Newman Center’s Leadership Team. Danielle grew up in Portland, IN with her parents and two siblings on their family farm. She really enjoys being outdoors and enjoying God’s creation with family and friends. As a missionary, Danielle is looking forward to getting to know the students at BGSU and being an outlet for Christ’s love to others. Welcome to BGSU, Danielle!
William Scheremet is a new FOCUS missionary from Minnesota. He has a great story about how he came to Christ and more recently how he was called to be a missionary. A graduate from the University of Minnesota, his college life was filled with alcohol, drugs, and all that living a party lifestyle entails. This led to severe mental health problems and broken relationships. After a motocross accident left him paralyzed, William started re-examining his life. Jesus reached him through his suffering and changed his life dramatically. Look for him as he serves our community as a missionary. Welcome to BGSU, William!
