ADVENT EVENINGS OF REFLECTION
On Monday and Tuesday, December 3-4, our parish hosted two Advent Evenings of Reflection from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. On Monday, Deacon Dan led a session on “The Advent Season.” Approximately 55 participants explored signs, symbols, and music of the season. In addition, they examined the Church’s “O Antiphons” that are said the week before Christmas and prayed these ancient prayers together, as well as spending time to discuss questions and build community during a snack break.
On Tuesday evening, Fr. Jason conducted a session on “The Infancy Narratives.” Approximately 45 participants examined and discussed differences and similarities between the Gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus as seen through the eyes of Saints Matthew and Luke. Many were surprised to discover that St. Mark’s Gospel does not even mention the birth of Christ!
In all, about 75 year-round and student parishioners participated in at least one of the sessions. We are excited to have been able to provide this spiritual opportunity for the parish. Mark your calendars, for the Lenten Day of Reflection that will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Tom’s.
Yours in Christ,
Deacon Dan Brahier
