Staff highlight: kathy moss
I started working as the Bookkeeper at St. Tom’s in July of 2015. I am responsible for paying bills and documenting all contributions to St. Tom’s as well as assisting with other duties when needed.
Being offered this job was truly an intervention from God who I believe worked through a couple of wonderful neighbors who are parishioners at St. Tom’s. They showed me the job posting from the bulletin and encouraged me to apply. I feel fortunate to be able to work with staff members and volunteers that have now become my friends.
I tell people that I’m a bookkeeper by day and a musician by night. This job has allowed me teach flute lessons to high school students in the afternoons and evenings and to perform on flute in a traditional Irish Pub Band called Toraigh An Sonas which in Gaelic means “In Search of Happiness”.
These two rather distinct walks of life have nurtured my religious spirit in ways that I never could have imagined.
Being the only non-Catholic staff member has inspired me to look deeper into my own religious beliefs. I grew up in the EUB (Evangelical United Brethren) Church in Minnesota which merged with the Methodist Church in the late 1960’s and became the United Methodist Church. As a member of First United Methodist, I volunteer both as a musician and as a member of the Worship Committee. I observe and listen with a more acute awareness and interest both during church services and when talking to people at St. Tom’s. I marvel at the incredible dedication of the St. Tom’s staff and many volunteers as they explore and share their Catholic beliefs. It has been humbling to witness such faithfulness and has made me examine my life as I follow the word of God . I can honestly say that working here has helped me to become a better person.
The flexibility of my job at St. Tom’s has given me more time to reconnect with my college musical training (Flute Performance) and feed my musical spirit. I thank God for granting me these musical talents and am grateful that I can continue to share my gift of music with others.
I live in Bowling Green with my talented, hard-working husband, Bruce who is Director of Bands at BGSU and our crazy, sweet hound Piper Grace.
